Cincinnati Children's (CCHMC) is inviting applications for a Congenital Heart Surgeon. The individual selected will join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CCHMC which is comprised of a team dedicated to the most progressive surgical care of children with cardiothoracic pathology as well as how that care is delivered. Our research and innovation efforts within the division are well established and highly productive in several areas, including basic science, virtual reality, outcome and translational research. We have multiple collaborations with the Divisions of Cardiology, Molecular Cardiovascular Biology, as well as a myriad of other divisions throughout CCHMC. As one of the three integrated components of the Heart Institute [Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, & Molecular Cardiovascular Biology], a multidisciplinary business unit within Cincinnati Children's, our division has enjoyed a highly esteemed profile internationally as an innovative leader in the management of pediatric and congenital cardiac patients.

While hired through CCHMC, the faculty appointment associated with this opportunity is granted by the University of Cincinnati (UC) whereby the Division has formed a strong collaborative relationship with leadership in cardiothoracic surgery. Surgeons within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CCHMC may perform surgery at a number of locations. This position is to be a full faculty member in the CCHMC division of Congenital Heart Surgery and report to the Chief of the Division. Physician Assistants practice in our outpatient practices on a collaborative care team composed of a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant, medical assistants, a dedicated medical scribe, and support from registered nurses and care managers. We partner with a network of elite specialists and hospitals for specialty and acute care. As such, our healthcare providers can focus on care within the clinic: primary care, care coordination, and population health.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provision of exceptional primary care.
  • Conduct office visits for routine and acute issues.
  • Administer Annual wellness visits and health risk assessments, which require a holistic view of health and a focus on thoughtful, accurate, and specific documentation.
  • Care coordination with other providers, specialists, testing facilities, and agencies.
  • Population health leadership, in coordination with the Care Team (e.g., making sure all eligible females get their evidence-based breast cancer screening every 2 years)

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years primary care experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

Technical Imaging & Clinical Practice

  • Perform mammography imaging exams using approved protocols and procedures
  • Function independently within professional scope of practice to deliver high-quality care
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of routine and specialized mammography protocols
  • Identify gross pathological findings and notify the radiologist as appropriate
  • Review imaging studies for accuracy, coding, and appropriate charging
  • Patient Care & Safety

    • Provide patient care in a safe, hazard-free environment with full attention to patient needs
    • Correctly identify patients using approved identifiers and age-specific criteria
    • Implement safety and fall precautions and recognize patient distress
    • Administer contrast agents when applicable, following aseptic technique and the five rights of medication administration
    • Protect patients from ionizing radiation by following ALARA and Image Gently guidelines

    Quality Assurance & Equipment Management

    • Perform quality assurance activities on technical imaging equipment
    • Monitor image quality and collaborate with appropriate teams to resolve issues
    • Report equipment malfunctions promptly to DI Engineering, supervisors, and managers
    • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked work areas and equipment
    • Execute downtime procedures during system failures and report issues immediately

    Communication & Team Collaboration

    • Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, providers, and team members
    • Utilize communication tools responsibly, including status boards, paging systems, phones, and email
    • Provide daily verbal hand-off communication to relief technologists
    • Address patient care concerns using critical thinking and escalate issues as needed

    Service, Productivity & Professionalism

    • Maintain high productivity while supporting patient flow and minimizing delays
    • Assist with departmental patient care activities, including escorting patients and supporting peers
    • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment
    • Uphold professionalism, courtesy, and accountability in all interactions
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION

    • Required: Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) program.
    • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Related field.
