Position:

The Tool Maintenance Technician - Permanent Mold is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving permanent mold tooling used in aluminum (or other metal) casting operations. This role ensures molds and related tooling are in optimal condition to support safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on permanent molds and related tooling.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds.
  • Troubleshoot mold-related defects (flash, mismatch, porosity, sticking, etc.).
  • Operate tool room equipment such as milling machines, grinders, lathes, and polishing tools.
  • Maintain mold cooling lines, ejector systems, slides, and cores.
  • Ensure proper alignment and fit of mold components.
  • Modify molds as required for process improvements or engineering changes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Work closely with production and quality teams to resolve tooling issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper handling of heavy tooling.
  • Assist in new mold trials and setup when required.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in tool maintenance, preferably in permanent mold or foundry operations.
  • Strong understanding of permanent mold casting processes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators).
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of mold coatings and release agents.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics and cooling systems.

Functional Requirements

Routinely able to:

  • Manually lift and move product and materials up to 50 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reach forward, reach overhead, lift, carry, crouch, and bend
  • Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering fork truck
  • Walk, sit, or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks
  • Push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • See, inspect, handle and evaluate product quality
  • Read and understand written English language work instructions
  • Work in non-climate controlled environments, including hot and humid conditions
  • Climb ladders and stairs of varying heights
  • Wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by LSI
