ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Sees NEMS’ patients as scheduled by the department.
  • Obtains medical history and performs patient examinations, evaluations, and counseling within the limits of training and protocols.

  • Participates in medical outreach programs such as health fairs, media (TV and radio programs) etc.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of an accredited program and NCCPA National Certificate Exam.
  • Renew the national certification with NCCPA every two years and successfully complete the Physician Assistant Recertifying Examination every six years.
  • Licensed by the State Medical Board of California and the Medical Act Provisions.
  • Current documentation of Basic Life Support is required.

LANGUAGE:

  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin), Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
  • Fluency in other languages are an asset.

Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP)

The Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) will assess, develop, and provide speech, language, and feeding/swallowing services to preschool and school‑age students. You will design therapy programs tailored to each child’s communication needs while supporting classroom success and meaningful social engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, evaluate, and diagnose speech, language, and feeding/swallowing needs following ASHA guidelines.
  • Develop therapy goals and intervention strategies aligned with each student’s IEP and school philosophy.
  • Deliver direct and small‑group speech therapy using evidence‑based practices.
  • Maintain documentation, including evaluation reports, daily notes, progress summaries, and IEP updates.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, parent conferences, and professional consultations.
  • Assess the effectiveness of classroom language/communication strategies and collaborate with educators to support communication in academic settings.
  • Act as a child advocate and help support communication goals across home, school, and community environments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Certification/License: NYS Speech licensure and NYS Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped Certification (TSHH/TSSLD).
  • Experience: Pediatric or school‑based experience preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, advocacy, collaboration, sound judgment, and ability to work effectively with children and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Maintains an active license and DEA in the state where care is being provided.

Responsibilities

  • Create a Plan of Care for each Patient at the inpatient unit, including discussing general inpatient care criteria and potential discharge plans with the IDG, patient, and family.
  • Sign death certificates, as applicable.
  • Participate in the evaluation and certification or recertification of the terminal prognosis, as applicable.
  • Establish consistent times for daily rounds, including RNs, team directors, and social workers, and prepare staff for daily rounds.
  • Conduct daily rounding on each patient receiving general inpatient care.
  • Establish a schedule for physician coverage at the inpatient unit.
  • Provide education to IDG during rounds, and conduct in-services for newly hired staff.
  • Promote physician collaboration on Patients.
  • Ensure the eligibility for general inpatient care is documented.
  • Provide after-hours call coverage at the inpatient unit on days on which inpatient visits are made.
