Jobot
Tampa, FL
Florida law firm looking for an amazing insurance defense associate

This Jobot Job is hosted by: Sherwin Souzankari
Are you a fit? Easy Apply now by clicking the "Apply" button and sending us your resume.
Salary: $120,000 - $170,000 per year

A bit about us:

This role is with a long-standing civil defense firm that has spent more than four decades representing insurance companies, self-insureds, businesses, and professionals in Florida and beyond. With approximately 150 attorneys across 11 offices in Florida and Georgia, the firm is one of the largest insurance defense practices in the region and is known for its trial-ready litigators and deep bench in general liability, first-party property, PIP, construction, employment, and commercial litigation.

Why join us?

1. High-volume, varied docket

- Work on a broad mix of files—general liability, auto, premises, construction defect, first-party property, and commercial litigation—rather than being siloed into a single niche.

2. True insurance defense platform

- Join one of Florida’s largest insurance defense operations, with longstanding relationships across major carriers, TPAs, and self-insureds, giving you a steady flow of complex, defense-side matters.

3. Trial and courtroom experience

- Develop real litigation chops through motion practice, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and, where appropriate, serving as second- or first-chair at trial in high-exposure cases.

4. Collaborative, growth-oriented culture

- Work with a large team of defense-side litigators, including partners who emphasize mentoring and training associates in strategy, case management, and client communication, within a culture that values collaboration and professional development.

5. Statewide footprint and stability

- Benefit from the stability and resources of an established firm with multiple Florida offices and a long history in the insurance industry, offering internal mobility, cross-office collaboration, and a diverse client base.

Job Details

Responsibilities

  • Manage a litigation docket of insurance defense matters, including general liability, automobile, premises liability, and commercial claims from inception through resolution.
  • Handle first-party property/coverage and PIP matters as assigned, including analysis of coverage, drafting coverage opinions, and litigating disputed claims.
  • Draft and argue dispositive and procedural motions, including motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, discovery motions, and evidentiary motions.
  • Conduct and defend party, fact-witness, and expert depositions, focusing on liability, causation, damages, and coverage issues.
  • Prepare case evaluations, reports, and budgets for insurers, TPAs, and self-insured clients, communicating exposure, strategy, and settlement posture clearly and on time.
  • Represent clients at mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and, where appropriate, as second- or first-chair at trial.
  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on case strategy, trial preparation, and client presentations, including coverage seminars and file reviews.
  • Ensure timely and accurate timekeeping, adhere to client billing guidelines, and assist with meeting team and firm productivity expectations.
  • Participate in internal training, mentoring initiatives, and, if desired, business development activities aimed at expanding relationships with existing and prospective insurance clients.

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with The Florida Bar.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of civil litigation experience, with a strong preference for prior insurance defense, general liability, first-party property, PIP, or commercial litigation experience.
  • Prior experience handling a litigation caseload, including drafting pleadings and motions, conducting written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and participating in mediations.
  • Comfort working directly with carrier and TPA clients, including preparing reports, evaluations, and budgets consistent with litigation guidelines.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to analyze complex facts, coverage issues, and medical records and present them in a clear, concise manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines across a high-volume docket in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with partners, colleagues, and staff across offices.

This opportunity is with an Am Law 100 firm that tends to fly slightly under the radar compared to some of the traditional legal giants, but among attorneys who practice in highly regulated industries, government-facing sectors.

This Jobot Job is hosted by: Kendall Barnett
Are you a fit? Easy Apply now by clicking the "Apply" button and sending us your resume.
Salary: $195,000 - $325,000 per year

A bit about us:

This opportunity is with an Am Law 100 firm that tends to fly slightly under the radar compared to some of the traditional New York-centric legal giants, but among attorneys who practice in highly regulated industries, government-facing sectors, and complex litigation, it carries a tremendous amount of respect.

The firm has grown into an international platform with offices throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East/North Africa region. Its reputation was built on helping clients navigate the intersection of law, business, and government. As a result, many of its strongest practice areas revolve around government contracts, healthcare, regulatory enforcement, investigations, cybersecurity, international trade, litigation, intellectual property, transportation, and sophisticated financial transactions.

One of the firm's defining characteristics is the depth of experience within its ranks. Many attorneys and leaders have served in government agencies, regulatory bodies, military leadership positions, and senior policy roles, allowing the firm to offer clients a practical understanding of how regulatory and governmental decisions are made.

Unlike firms that focus primarily on traditional corporate M&A or commodity litigation work, this platform is particularly known for advising clients operating within highly regulated industries, including government contractors, healthcare organizations, transportation and infrastructure clients, financial institutions, and businesses facing complex regulatory frameworks.

The firm consistently receives recognition for its attorney development programs, pro bono commitment, diversity initiatives, and collaborative culture. From a recruiting perspective, attorneys are often drawn to the combination of sophisticated, nationally recognized work, meaningful client interaction, and a culture that is generally viewed as more collegial and flexible than many traditional BigLaw environments.

For attorneys looking to work on complex, high-impact matters at the intersection of business, regulation, and government, it represents one of the stronger platforms currently available in the market.

Why join us?
